Nonfiction Book Proposal Critique

Opened book with business sketches over white background

You’ve put in the work—clarified your idea, crafted your positioning, and written a sample chapter or two. But when it comes to the proposal, you may be wondering:

Is the proposal really ready to pitch?

A professional critique can give you the clarity and confidence you need before you query agents or publishers, making the strongest case for your book.

What’s Included in the Critique

This one-time proposal critique includes:

  • A 30-minute phone or Zoom consultation to discuss your book and publishing goals
  • A thorough review of your proposal (comments returned within a week)
  • A follow-up phone/Zoom consultation to discuss feedback and next steps
  • A written critique letter outlining suggestions for revision and refinement

Cost: $800

I feel so very fortunate to have had Anne’s guidance in developing my book proposal! As a first-time author, I had no clue what a viable nonfiction book proposal should look like and initially consulted someone who was, honestly, not helpful. I was discouraged but decided to take another chance after reading Anne’s description of herself as an ‘armchair cognitive science geek, nonfiction author coach…’ In our first zoom meeting, Anne succinctly walked me through what worked and what didn’t in my proposal, gave me insight into what agents were looking for, and offered to do further follow-up with me. She did all this with a warm and encouraging tone that put me at ease and gave me renewed confidence in the importance of my work. Lovely person, shrewd insight, grammar mastery. If you are looking for a supportive expert for your book proposal, your search ends here.

Working with Anne helped me move from aspiration to reality with my book proposal. She provided not only edits that made my writing clearer and more effective, but also the right structure and accountability to get something really pulled together. Her input also helped me secure an agent, who remarked at how impressed they were with the quality and thoroughness of my proposal even in our initial discussions.

Anne was tremendously helpful in helping me craft a proposal that got my publisher’s attention and got me a contract.

I hired Anne to review my book proposal — and Wow, was I grateful to have found her! She gave clear, unflinching feedback (the most valuable kind) with a sound understanding of industry standards. Her package of edits-plus-consultation was far more helpful than I even hoped. She is thoroughly professional, while also being warm and encouraging for my career as a writer. Highly Recommend!
