For the July writing challenge, let’s try some nature writing.
Why nature writing? Nature in its many forms is accessible to all of us. It’s summer where I am, so there’s a desire to get outside.
And, research shows that being in nature, or even contemplating a photo of nature or looking out the window at trees, can elevate our moods and make us more creative.
So this month, commit to writing four things inspired by the natural world. Your subject might be:
- The view outside your window
- A favorite spot in the garden
- A location you’re visiting on vacation
- It doesn’t matter.
What should you write?
- A descriptive essay
- A letter to a relative
- A poem
- A Facebook post
Commit in advance to doing this. When we know we’re going to write about something, we tend to see it differently, perhaps in more detail or with a different viewpoint.
You might just find that this writing assignment enriches your life in an interesting way this July.
Give it a try. I’m going to try it, too, and I can hardly wait to see what kind of responses people have.
